In an era of sameness and globalization, it’s amazing how a capital city like Lisbon has retained a truly unique feel. It’s just so well-preserved, and this beauty is definitely worth preserving. There’s so much to love about Lisbon’s looks — red roofs, cobblestone sidewalks, sea views — but my favorite thing is clearly the colorful tiles that adorn the buildings. Here are some photos I took of different tiles I’ve seen. I haven’t decided which pattern I like best yet!

I love the slide of the three panels with the monk scene. The tiles make for such a colourful in interesting display. We’ve never been to Portugal but really hope to make it there soon. Europe is a place that we haven’t explored enough and are really itching to see more of.
The patterns make Lisbon’s streets look quite dazzling (especially when you also look down and see the cobblestone designs), but then there are also other truly monumental works of art covering the façades. These are not patterns, but actually images painted in the 1700s and 1800s.
