The Library at Trump SoHo: Cozy Spot in Downtown NYC

Trump Soho Library

When you hear the name Trump, you think combovers, “You’re fired!” and birth certificates.

When you hear the name Trump SoHo hotel, you think glitz, glamor and over-the-top luxury.

And indeed, you would not be disappointed, on all accounts. I mean in regards to the hotel. I’ve never met Donald Trump. But I did get to spend the day with several other bloggers, touring Trump Soho Hotel and having lunch at its fabulous Northern Italian restaurant, Quattro.

I wasn’t expecting that my favorite part of the hotel would be The Library (pictured left), which is actually sort of hidden as it’s located up a flight of stairs that are off to the side of the lobby. The library actually overlooks the lobby, as you can see in the photo on the right.

Actually as a not so-secret geek-at-heart (see posts on my visits to University of St Andrews and Stanford just for kicks), I love libraries, so perhaps I should say that I wasn’t expecting to find a library at the Trump Soho hotel, not that I wasn’t expecting to love it once I realized one was there.

It’s not meant to be a party library (there’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one), like The Library at the Hudson Hotel, although a drink and food menu is available. No, this is more like a quiet, cozy, collect-your-thoughts library.

Just like the rest of the hotel, the furnishings are by Fendi Casa with no shortage of brown tones and ostrich leather. Designed by David Rockwell, it’s sleek, modern and gorgeous. There’s free wifi so you can use your laptop but there’s also a collection of Taschen books so you can (gasp!) read a book in the library. Taschen, the imprint of luxe books on art, architecture and design, actually curated the library. I’ll confess, though, that when I snuck back in after the blogger event, I didn’t read anything but took advantage of the wifi, as a good blogger will.

If you’re shopping in SoHo, the Library is a perfect place to take a break from the boutiques. Or if you’re at the hotel to hang out at Bar D’Eau, the new outdoor pooldeck bar that wasn’t open when I was there at the end of March, the Library would be an excellent spot to retreat to for quiet conversation.

Taschen and Trump — so luxe!

Somehow I haven’t exactly associated Donald Trump with books…

  4. Don Faust says:

I love small libraries – nice decor, although the TASCHEN branding takes a little away from the look of the bookshelves. Regardless, it looks like a nice place to hang out with a drink and a book… or laptop!

  5. What a great find! Food, beverages, free wifi, and cozy? Perfect spot for a blogger.
