“No man is an island,” wrote the poet John Donne. And while Necker Island may be synonymous with Virgin CEO Richard Branson, both are so much more. These days, Branson is more in the news about his desires to send people into space. Quite frankly, I’d much rather go to Necker Island than space. I love the Caribbean and it would be an incredible experience to stay at the ultimate luxury resort. Any resort good enough for Richard Branson is good enough for me!
Richard Branson tells “My Story of Necker Island” in this personal, passionate and riveting video. Necker Island truly is his home. I enjoyed the historical aspects of the video, and the footage of special moments that have taken place on the island. I didn’t know much about the island before this video, and I had no idea that he bought this completely deserted island for only $180,000! Of course, you wouldn’t expect a shrewd businessman to pay the full asking price, which in this case was $6 million in the late 19 70s. And how cool that Branson has reintroduced original species to the island, like flamingoes. Right now, the island is focusing on an energy efficient future, switching from diesel power to a mixture of solar and wind power as part of the Ten Island Renewable Challenge.
Enjoy the video! And if you rent out Necker Island, be sure to invite me along….
