Is Sea Life Oberhausen on your itinerary for your trip to Germany? What, you’re not even planning to make a pilgrimage to this industrial, northwestern German city? But it’s home to Paul the Psychic Octopus!

Paul’s claim to fame is that he predicted eight out of eight World Cup wins — one for every arm. The odds of predicting this are, well, really slim. Since I’m not much of a sports fan, the buzz around the Oracle of Oberhausen was easily my favorite part of the World Cup.

I was hoping Paul would keep making predictions, but alas he’s going to quit while he’s ahead and just focus on hanging out in his tank. I don’t blame him for going into retirement — this feat would be hard to top. And maybe he was getting flashed too much? Octopi hate that.

There are a lot of videos out there, but I picked this one because it has lots of great footage of Paul doing his thing. It’s pretty cool the way he opens those boxes.
