There’s plenty of snow in Lake Placid, NY, right now. That makes it much easier for the Ski Jumpers to relentlessly hone their skills. But in case you were worried, they did not take the summer off. Nope, the Whiteface Lake Placid Olympic Jumping Complex is open year round so these dedicated daredevils can practice […]
When I arrived in Lake Placid, New York, after a five-plus-hour drive in August, I was very excited to see Lake Placid itself. I was so excited that I erroneously assumed that the lovely lake in the town of Lake Placid (of which I had a great view from the High Peaks Resort) was Lake Placid. But no, it was Mirror Lake. I didn’t see Lake Placid until I went to the famous ski resort of Whiteface and rode the Cloudsplitter Gondola.
It seems like there are Starbucks everywhere… except when you need one. Like at the middle of the mountain when you’re skiing and you want cappuccino that doesn’t come from an instant hot chocolate machine. And that’s why I’m in awe of the world’s first ski-in ski-out Starbucks, which opened on Saturday in Squaw Valley, […]
Skiers and snowboarders may not always get along on the mountain, but they can usually find one issue to agree on: the importance of having somewhere cool to go at the end of the day when the lifts close. Whether it’s for apres ski or apres snowboard, winter warriors need a place to get their […]
Last month, Travelogged.com teamed up with Apres by CK Bradley, a new ski/snowboard clothing company with a distinctly retro flair, for a contest. We asked you to tell us your favorite spots for apres-ski in the comments and then chose the winner using a random number generator (pictured right). Well, lucky Libby was the 11th […]
Thanks to the Apres by CK Bradley contest, I’ve got skiing on the brain. So when Yuli Linssen Kaminitz from EasyToBook.com offered to write a guest blog post about the top five ski resorts of Austria, I was very excited. I’ve been to Austria twice, but only in the summer and only to Vienna. Now […]
I was so disappointed when one of my favorite NYC boutiques, CK Bradley, closed last year. But then I found out that designer Camilla Bradley had abandoned her perfectly preppy pieces and the mean streets of Manhattan for a very good cause! She has launched a new line of retro-inspired ski wear called Apres by […]
At first, I wasn't that jealous that my friends Libby and Pete went to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler. No, I was happy for them (really!) and thrilled that Pete was willing to share his awesome photographs of the Olympic events they attended. Then I found out that they got to see Lindsey Vonn […]
Right now, there's really only one place to be. And that's at the Winter Olympics.
(View From Stratton Mountain by Steve Soj/Flickr) Nicki and Greg Shalette were looking for a little luxury and a little skiing that wasn't too far from New York City. So last weekend, they drove to Manchester, VT, for a fantastic romantic getaway. They skied, they got massages, they dined, they hit the outlets and they […]
