I love watching the ball drop at Times Square on New Year’s Eve at midnight — on TV. No matter where I’ve been on New Year’s Eve, every house or venue has turned on the TV to join in on the countdown. I’ve never had any desire to join the freezing masses in Times Square, although […]
In the past, I’ve dreamed of being like Santa and circling the globe to see all the best Christmas decorations. But this year, I’ve decided that it would be more fun to stay at all of the hotels with the best Christmas trees! First I looked at the best hotel Christmas trees in the US, and now it’s time to travel the world. Here are my favorite hotel Christmas trees in Paris, London, Amman, Vancouver, Malawi and Kuala Lumpur.
For the past few years, I’ve fantasized about traveling the world like Santa to see all of the best Christmas decorations around the world. But a recent trip to The Plaza Tree Lighting to meet Santa and the Saks Yeti got me thinking about a different sort of trip this year… A look at the best hotel Christmas trees around the United States! These hotels in Beverly Hills, Washington, DC, Dallas, San Diego, Charleston, Florida, Virginia and Montana really get decked for the holidays.
What better place for my three-year-old son to meet Santa for the first time than at The Plaza tree lighting? The Plaza, a true icon of New York, is a magical place in its own right. My husband, son and I were invited to the Tree Lighting Tea at the Palm Court for yesterday evening, where […]
What takes 2,250 pounds of icing, 415 pounds of dough and 17 pounds of candy corns? That would be Gingerbread Lane, and you can find 152 houses along this most coveted address at the New York Hall of Science (aka NYSci) in Queens, NY. We visited for the first time this past Saturday, and it […]
Halloween has always been my favorite holiday, and I’ve been pleased to observe that this year New York City has embraced it more than ever with the Upper East Side townhouses seemingly in a competition as to who can add more cobwebs. But, as an article in the New York Times pointed out today, Britain […]
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a wonderful place to visit any time, but attending a party there afterhours on World Malbec Day was truly special. On April 17, Wines of Argentina celebrated World Malbec Day with a walk-around tasting at the Charles Engelhard Court in the American Wing of the Museum. Not only was the setting spectacular, but there were tango dancers and live music. The Argentines know how to throw a party!
Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, is one place where you can have a very bright Christmas! Keeping up with the proverbial Joneses never required more electricity than it does in this Christmas lights wonderland. Subtlety is not rewarded here. Many of the houses go far beyond lights, with giant Nutcrackers, inflatable Santa Clauses and Nativity Scenes. Most […]
I had heard about the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden for years, but I had always thought that it was something just for kids. Until I had my son (who just turned two), I didn’t get excited about trains unless I was planning a trip to Europe. But now that trains […]
