Were you among the 1 million people who filled Times Square to celebrate the arrival of 2015? I sure wasn’t and I had no desire to be. Freezing cold, no bathrooms and packed like a can of festive, light-up sunglasses-wearing sardines? No thanks. I was about three miles away at a friend’s family-friendly New Year’s Eve house party and that was good enough for me. But as a New Yorker, I do hold some sentimentality for the 12-foot, 11,875-pound Waterford ball, and I always make sure to see it drop at midnight no matter where I am in the world. And I love re-living the moment with this exhilarating video by The Timelapse Group, which turned 14 hours of photography into a 2-minute must-see video (below).
Last year, I posted the Timelapse Group’s 2014 New Years Eve Times Square Video. So they contacted me to say that they had truly outdone themselves this year, more than doubling the amount of photographs used to create the video more than 36,000 photos! Their goal this year was to create a more personal feeling of the soul of New York City leading up to the NYE countdown by shooting more of skyline, iconic buildings of NYC, crowds gathering on the street level, and capturing the last sunset of 2014. They returned to the to DoubleTree by Hilton Times Square and added two new hotel rooftop locations at the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Times Square Central and Hilton Times Square to gain additional perspectives.
Watching this amazing two-minute timelapse video of New Years Eve in Times Square in 2015 makes you feel inspired not only by the artistry and the technology but by the hope and rebirth that comes with the New Year.
