Enjoy the Attractions of Brussels at Any Time of Year

The 2008 Tapis de Fleurs (aka Flower Carpet) in Brussels.

I love exploring European cities, but alas I haven’t made it to Brussels yet. I enjoyed learning more about this beautiful city from this guest post, and I hope you will too! I’d really like to see the famous Flower Carpet (Tapis de Fleurs) one day…

A trip to Europe offers the chance to take in many historic destinations. The capital city of Belgium, Brussels, is one of these and visitors will find plenty of interest to them no matter what time of year they visit. To book accommodation we recommend: http://www.venere.com/belgium/brussels/

Winter
In the lead up to the holiday season the centre of Brussels is transformed into a traditional Christmas market for the Winter Wonders festival. This week-long event is staged towards the end of November and start of December and visitors can enjoy market stalls, a sound and light show, an ice skating rink, a parade, and much more. The city is also beautifully decorated during the festive period and this makes it a great pace to enjoy some Christmas and New Year fun. The weather can be cold so visitors should be sure to wrap up well when they are out and about.

Spring
As the warmer weather starts to take hold in Brussels, visitors can enjoy Cultural Heritage Day. This is usually staged on the first Sunday after Easter, with events held in locations all over Brussels to celebrate the city’s culture and heritage. Spring is also the perfect time to enjoy the many markets that are held around the city. Some of those to visit include the flower market at Grand Place, the gourmet food market at Place du Grand Sablon, and the arts & craft market at Agora Roundabout.

Summer
Those that choose to visit during the summer months should book early to get the accommodation they want. The city is a popular destination and the best hotels in Brussels can fill up as tourists look to plan their stay. The hotter months of the year are the perfect time to explore the city’s many historic attractions. This includes the Town Hall, the Atomium, the Place Royale, and Mini Europe, to name just a few. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants with outside tables to soak up the atmosphere and this is a perfect way to spend time in the city during the summer months.

Autumn
Although it is only staged every second year, the Brussels Flower Carpet is definitely an autumn sight worth seeing for those that visit when it is staged. It comprises a huge carpet of begonias set out in distinctive patterns and designs on the Grand Place. This is a historic location in Brussels and a visit provides the opportunity to see many of the city’s historic buildings. The display of flowers adds to the beauty and is well worth visiting. Other autumn highlights include the Brussels marathon and half marathon, as well as the Nuit Blanche festival.

Spending a day or more in Brussels provides the opportunity to see some great attractions. The city offers year-round entertainment to ensure that there is always something to see or do that makes a visit fun and enjoyable.
