I love watching the ball drop at Times Square on New Year’s Eve at midnight — on TV. No matter where I’ve been on New Year’s Eve, every house or venue has turned on the TV to join in on the countdown. I’ve never had any desire to join the freezing masses in Times Square, although I did have my own #MidnightMoment last February, when I went to the debut of Tracey Emin’s first public-art project in the US, in which her “I Promise to Love You” series will lit up the Times Square digital billboards from 11:57pm-midnight for a month. I’ve also gotten to touch the famous Waterford crystal ball at The Times Square Visitors Center and Museum (see left).
I really enjoyed this two-and-a-half-minute New Year’s Eve timelapse video that was produced by The Time Lapse group using more than 18,000 still frames. It was shot over the course of 12 hours from two hotel rooftop locations: DoubleTree Suites by Hilton NYC Times Square and Manhattan Times Square. It’s like celebrating New Year’s Eve all over again. Happy New Year!
