The beach at The Reefs in Bermuda

The Caribbean has so many wonderful resorts, and I was very pleased to see that this guest post listed one of my all-time favorites: The Reefs in Bermuda! I’ve dined at The Ritz-Carlton in Grand Cayman, and that is a very special place too. As for Eden Rock on St. Bart’s, well, a girl can dream…

The Caribbean is one of the most relaxing spots on Earth for a vacation. The tranquillity of idyllic islands dotting the clear turquoise sea, sunny days and warm, breezy nights will refresh body and soul. There are so many fantastic beach front vacation accommodations on the islands here from Jamaica to the Dominican Republic; it can be daunting just deciding on one. Here is a list of five highly-rated resorts in the Caribbean.

1. The Reefs, Bermuda

Have a classic vacation at The Reef located on the South Shore of Bermuda. Tucked away among the limestone cliffs, there are several different rooming options, including rooms and cottages. Enjoy a panoramic view of the south shore. It is a resort that both families and couples can appreciate. There are plenty of amenities available, including a spa that offers a traditional Thai massage. They even have several Flip video cameras for guests who want to capture the beauty of Bermuda on film.

 2. Eden Rock on St. Bart’s

For those that like spotting celebrities, St. Bart’s Eden Rock is a favourite. Celebrities like the variety in style and decor of all the 34 rooms. There is an on-site art gallery with an ever-changing display and even a studio where guests can try their hand at creating a masterpiece inspired by the surrounding beauty. Check into the DeHaenen Suites or the Harbour House for terrific views. Guests here enjoy the open-air restaurant with its view of the bay and authentic French gourmet dishes.

3. Jade Mountain, St. Lucia

The architecture of the lovely Jade Mountain Resort reflects the natural beauty of St. Lucia as it hugs the hillside with walls of rough stone. Although each suite is uniquely designed, all have either a Jacuzzi or an infinity pool and 15-foot high ceilings. When guests enter the living room here, they have the illusion of being in a three-walled room since the front has an open-air feel with spectacular views.

4. Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman

The short one-hour flight from Miami makes this destination a convenient and popular choice. It’s a good one for those who like to mix a little pleasure in with a business trip, as the Grand Cayman is a world-class financial centre. Those who love water sports will be most happy here. The 365 beachfront Ritz-Carlton is not likely to great guests by claiming there is “no room in the inn.” There is a 144-acre playground here that features high-end amenities such as a La Prairie Spa, Greg Norman golf course and Jean-Michel Cousteau nature tours. It is the perfect family resort.

5. Couples Negril, Jamaica

Leave the kids behind for this one. This adults-only resort caters to couples, providing a typical Jamaican ambiance. Fan-shaped balcony railings, tropical colors and a lobby full of paintings and sculptures by local artists add romance. Go snorkelling, sailing or scuba diving free. Afterwards, engage in a private spa bath together as a couple. Every room includes a mosaic-tiled spa bathroom. Much later, go out for a late, intimate candlelight dinner, arranged by the Romance Concierge. It doesn’t get any more romantic than this. This makes a great honeymoon, anniversary or Valentine’s Day trip.
