Canada Day may not be the most popular holiday in New York City, but some prominent Canadians are looking to change that — or at the very least make sure that New Yorkers understand why the Empire State Building will be lit up in red and white for three nights. Last Tuesday, the Consulate General of Canada hosted The Great Canadian Cocktail competition at the Penn Club.
But there’s another initiative that will reach far more people — New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers alike. That’s the absolutely hilarious “Happy Canada Day, New York” video produced by the Canadian Consulate. The video is starring my third favorite Canadian, Pat Keirnan! (My first two favorite Canadians are Canada’s Adventure Couple, The Planet D travel bloggers extraordinaire Debra Corbeil and Dave Bouskill, whom I met at the #FollowMeAtSea Princess Alaska cruise, and with whom I toured Vancouver.)
It’s pretty amazing that one of the most recognizable faces in New York is Canadian, as Pat Kiernan is the NY 1 anchor who gives most New Yorkers (including this one) their news every morning. The bond between New York and Canada is strong, as we share a border and a natural wonder — Niagara Falls. Roadtripping to Montreal is a rite of passage for many of us, and for some (like me!) a quick trip to charming, old world Quebec City is practice for a later, longer trip to Paris. Plus, our packaging looks more exotic, as much of it is in both English and French so it can be sold to our bilingual neighbors to the North.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a Canadian or a New Yorker to enjoy the video below. Happy Canada Day!
