In Switzerland, Even an Escaped Elephant Is Orderly

PinExt In Switzerland, Even an Escaped Elephant Is Orderly

When I made Switzerland a stop in my post-college backpacking spree 10 years ago, I was immediately impressed by how clean, beautiful and orderly it is. I went to Leysin, Interlaken and Lucerne. I didn't make it to Zurich, which is apparently so lovely that on Sunday a circus elephant escaped just to take a one-hour stroll around the city. But don't worry, this being Switzerland, Sabu the elephant didn't do harm anyone and didn't damage anything. Nor did anyone hurt her.

Here's some footage of Sabu that a bystander took. Look at how nicely she's walking down the road — staying to the edge and heading in the right direction. She doesn't even run!

Here's the full story from ITN news. Apparently, she also visited Lake Zurich during her romp. Now she's back with Circus Knie, Switzerland's main circus.

  1. You know the saying, “In Switzerland, everything that is not required is forbidden.”?

  2. After read this post and seen the vids, I’m thinking; Swizz and Norway is quite alike – no wonder with all the mountains and wild nature :-)
