As you may recall, in January I wrote a post about the Best Job in the World contest. Tourism Queensland (as in Australia) launched a global search to fill the position of "Island Caretaker," who would live on Hamilton Island for six months and blog about the experience of being right by the Great Barrier Reef. Over 34,700 people applied for the job (which pays AUD$150,000), and today the winner was announced. It's 34-year-old Ben Southall, a charity fund-raiser from Southern England. Ben won't begin his cushy new assignment until July 1st, but you can start reading his personal blog now to get a taste of what's to come. Congratulations Ben!
