When I was in Key West, I had the chance to take a boating excursion to where the dolphins like to hang out, but the water was very choppy that day so I opted to kayak in the calm backcountry mangroves instead. I thought that I might see dolphins in Costa Rica — shouldn't they love that super-warm water? — but no dolphins on my watch. The last time I saw the graceful creatures was when I watched a pod of three dolphins in Bay Head, NJ, a quaint seaside town that to me always feels more New England than Jersey Shore. Well, right now over 1,000 dolphins are blocking a suspected Somali pirate ship from attacking a Chinese merchant fleet. I've always heard that dolphins are highly intelligent, but I had no idea they were so up on current events.
