The Circus Is In Town

Can you guess where this majestic house is located? Nope, it’s not Morocco, although there are Moorish influences in the architecture. And it’s not a Venetian palace, either, although the original owners intended it to look just like one. It’s the Ca d’Zan Mansion and it’s in Sarasota, FL. John Ringling and his wife Mable built this house in 1925 as a refuge from the Boston cold for three months each year.

Ca d’Zan is part of the Ringling Museum of Art, a compound that includes an art museum, two circus museums and extensive grounds and gardens. No matter how you feel you feel about performing animals and sideshows, you can’t help but be impressed with the world’s largest miniature circus. Howard Bros. Circus Model took philanthropist Howard Tibbals over 50 years to create. When you see the level of detail, you’ll understand — the slideshow is after the jump.
