Lauren Liles just returned from her New Year’s snowboarding trip to Aspen, where she stayed at the hip Sky Hotel. With its happening lounge/pool/tub scene, it’s perfect for the younger partying crowd and even offers complimentary local Cadillac Escalade service for those who can tear themselves away from the hotel. Here’s what Lauren has to say about this alpine paradise:
Best Bar Scene: Even though the Caribou Club is members-only, our hotel was able to get us a dinner reservation there. We hung out at the bar before and after our meal.
Best Meal: My meal at Pacifica was the perfect way to end a perfect vacation. We started with a seafood tower from the raw bar for the table, and then shared two entrees between the three of us.
Budget Tip: Take advantage of The Little Nell‘s hospitality by stopping in for a free apres-ski cider. That’s right, Aspen’s swankiest hotel serves free hot apple cider in its lobby every day beginning around 4 PM.
Biggest Surprise: How small the town was and how easy it was to get around. The airport was only a 10-minute drive from the hotel. We could walk to Aspen mountain or go three blocks to catch the free shuttles to Snowmass and Buttermilk.
If you can’t make it to Aspen, pretend you’re there by watching the ESPN Winter X Games from Thurs., Jan. 22nd to Sun., Jan. 25th. (Those who make it to the mountain can watch the events in person as they’re all free and open to the public.) To learn more about Aspen, check out this month’s Travel and Leisure magazine, which has an excellent article about how the town maintains a balance between glamour and ruggedness.
